Howdy, Our summer break is over and it's time to get back together for some informative and fun meetings. I have missed them and the fellowship we have had. My summer has been packed as usual with flying, remodeling, and lots of travel (by car). I drove all the way to Bellingham Washington to buy a band saw and the store was closed for the weekend. I felt a little foolish that I didn't call first but that is how I do things I guess. We had a great time out there anyway. We spent a day in Anacortes, a day in Seattle and a day hiking in the rain forest of the Olympic Peninsula. Let me tell you that there are some huge trees in that forest and they tell me that there are even larger ones in California. We saw one cedar tree that was so big it had full grown fir trees growing out of the crotch some 20 feet off the ground. Don't believe me do you? Well I have pictures to prove it. I just have to get them developed and I will show you.
Here are a few items for you all to ponder on. 1. If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes? 2. Should crematoriums give discounts for burn victims? 3. And whose cruel idea was it to put an "S" in the word "Lisp"? 4. If a man stands in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong? 5. If someone with multiple personalities threatens suicide, is it considered a hostage situation?
From the President…
Our members and guests gathered for the annual summer picnic June 27 at the Pioneer Cabin in Reeder's Alley, despite threatening skies, wind and rain. Our luck held out as the rain disappeared just in time to set out our wonderful catered supper of home-cooked chicken pot pie by Jan Sinamon, curator of the Pioneer Cabin.

Now that summer's over, we'll be resuming our monthly meetings. I hope you also are thinking about what kind of programs you would like to see next year…be sure to let any of the officers know of good program ideas and we'll try to work them in. This could include medical-related topics, or fun stuff, such as our visit to Birds and Beesley's not long ago. We all are sobered by the events of September 11, and I wish all of you strength and faith to carry us through what might come, and for any losses you personally may have sustained. It now is time to gather up with our friends and face the future together. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in Rooms 1-2-3 at St. Peter's Hospital. Dr. Blair Erb, local cardiologist, will be our speaker, and I hear he had been preparing for this presentation for some while. Now is the chance to ask questions about the latest medical breakthroughs for heart patients. Dr. Erb spoke to us for the first time in November of 1999, and captivated his audience. Don't miss this meeting...bring your friends, especially if they have had heart events of any kind. See you then. …Bev Gibson
Visitors Report
We have had 115 visits this summer from June 1st to September 19 and 284 visits so far this year. I think that is great and I think we should all tip our hats to the visitor chairlady and visitors who have done a great job. George Bonnes has done a wonderful job visiting at Fort Harrison even though those patients are not from Helena and more than likely won't come to our meetings or become one of our members. It is just great to have some one visit you when you are on your back in a strange hospital in a strange town and surrounded by strangers. I think George likes to swap old war stories, too.
